Rookies
The BUCC Rookies put on a stellar performance against Mentone Rookies, showcasing their exceptional fielding with several run-outs and catches. The highlight was Lucas Cocking’s outstanding bowling spell, taking an incredible 5/5 off 3 overs. This effort guided the team to a dominant 112-run victory. Well done, Rookies!
Under 12C
Facing the top side was always going to be a tough challenge. Batting first, we were bowled out for just over 50 runs. However, our bowlers stepped up, led by Thomas Norsworthy, who claimed at least two wickets (possibly three). Despite giving the opposition a scare with a gritty bowling display, we couldn’t quite pull off the upset. A valiant fight to the very end!
Under 12A
The Under 12As took to the field this week with determination and resilience in a challenging encounter. Despite a tough outing, there were standout performances with both bat and ball that deserve recognition.
Our batting effort was led by Sullivan Shannon, who showcased great composure to retire not out with 31 runs. Our bowlers put in a spirited display, keeping the opposition on their toes with disciplined lines and lengths. Standout performers included Bodhi Duke and Oliver McArthur, each taking a crucial wicket while maintaining impressive economy rates.
Under 14
The Under 14s endured a difficult game, managing only 49 runs before being bowled out in 30 overs. Special thanks to Jesse Downes, Xavier Brodrick, Marlow, and Sullivan Shannon for stepping in. Mars was the standout batter this week. Chin up, team—better days are ahead!
Under 16
The Under 16s put in a spirited effort while defending 177 at Hurlingham. All bowlers contributed well:
Noah: 1/24 off 8
Benny Dessent: 2/29 off 7
Leo: 1/16 off 4
Brodie: 1/27 off 7
Matty Logan: 1/23 off 5, plus a spectacular catch
A strong team effort despite the challenging target!
Womens 1st XI
This weekend, the BUCC Ladies took on Parkdale CC, one of the top teams in our division. After winning the toss, Parkdale opted to bowl first—a decision that suited us perfectly, as we had planned to bat first.
Our batting was led by the James sister duo: Sophie James scored a solid 21, Eliza James contributed 13, and Kate Williamson added 10 runs. At the close of our innings, we finished at 8/81. While it was a modest total, we entered the field feeling both nervous and determined.
What followed was an outstanding display of cricket from our team, as we held Parkdale to 6/72. The fielding effort was exceptional, with Kiara Jane, Abby Stubber, and Liv Gleeson putting on superb performances.
The bowling effort was equally impressive:
- Charli De Vries: 1/12 from 4 overs
- Kate Williamson: 2/11 from 4 overs
- Eliza James: 1/3 from her single over
We also secured two crucial run-outs that played a key role in our victory.
These ladies have come so far in their cricketing journeys, and it is an absolute privilege to watch their skills improve week after week. I encourage everyone to come down and support this history-making team whenever you can.
A special thank you goes to the incredible Paul Morgan, who arrives at every home game two hours early to help clean and prepare the rooms for both our team and our visitors. Paul truly embodies the spirit of BUCC and sets an example for us all. He deserves all the recognition and thanks in the world.
4th XI
The 4ths faced East Bentleigh Central at Caulfield Park and posted 160, thanks to contributions from:
J. Guttmann: 52*
G. Aloi: 45 (retired hurt)
F. Hall: 20
Unfortunately, East Bentleigh chased down the target with just two wickets down. Highlights included Kate Williamson’s tidy spell (5 overs, 1/17) and Sarah Burke’s two impressive catches—both debuting alongside the boys. Manula also bowled well on his debut, finishing with 0/14 off 4 overs. Great effort from the new faces!
3rd XI
The 3rds took on Omega, who managed 130 from their 35 overs—a target well within reach. Ben Radlow claimed two wickets, while young guns Dean Farrington and Ben Dessent impressed with their tight spells.
In reply, we cruised to victory with eight wickets in hand:
Dave Bregazzi: 53*
Doug Clowes: 14*
The win puts us firmly in the top four. Fantastic work, team!
2nd XI
The 2nds bowled first and delivered a solid performance, dismissing the opposition for 176. Standout figures included:
Daniel Lavers: 3/17 off 8
Sammy Boontjes: 3/21 off 7
Matty Logan: 1/21 off 8
Our chase is off to a steady start at 1/52. A strong platform for next week—let’s bring it home!
1st XI
The 1st XI had a challenging day, bowled out for 140 in their first innings. However, they fought back with the ball, reducing ANA to 2/36 at stumps. A big effort will be needed next week to claim the win. Go Lions!
