Round One T20 2019/20

Great write-up by the prez, John Halliday.

Who said you can’t get by without an education?

Game one of the SECA T20 saw us bowling first V East Sandy at Centenary before a cold but vocal crowd.

Early breakthroughs with East ⭐️ Guy Martyn falling cheap after a great catch by Josh Bregazzi off the bowling of Daniel “The Assassin” Ewart and Hugo cleaning up the inform Harris to have ESBC 2/13. The batsmen then chipped away at a steady rate to finish 5/161 .

Hugo 2 wickets and Dan and Malin one each.

With 8 runs an over required Paddy Franklin opened up with a big 6 and a boundary before falling for 17. Comeback kid Cal Cathcart was busy but rusty in his 4 runs.

Most bats got starts with Josh Bregazzi 13 and Campbell James 25 but the main goal was to support skipper Craig Short who displayed every shot in the book with a brilliant 65 off 33 balls. Wickets fell as Harry Zaia and Liam Manakis kept up with the required 8 runs an over till at 7/147 our two Sri Lankan boys were at the crease with us needing 15 runs off the last two overs.

Calm batting with smart singles then a huge 6 from Malin saw us win with one ball remaining.

Malin not out 8 and Buddhika not out 10.

All players stuck to the game plan and the result followed.

Next Tuesday 19th we are again at home V Le Page Park.

I promise the weather will be warmer so come down and support the young Lions 🦁.
