Round One & Two Junior Recap 2019/20

Juniors Wrap

Round 1

All our juniors hit the park in the last week to start our 19/20 campaigns – with our Girls 13 & U side finishing out the round this afternoon. We are fielding 10 junior sides this season

U16B/U14B North/U14B Central/U12B/U12C/U12D x 2/Rookies/AGCC 13 & U/AGCC 16 & U

(combined with WPCC/Carnegie)

All games for Round 1 were in 20/20 format.

Friday night twilight kicked off the 19/20 Junior season with arctic conditions and what in football terms would have been a 4 goal breeze. Those not frozen to their seats on the sidelines took the field in our 3 twilight sides:

U16s HOME Vs WPCC WON 2/112 Vs 5/44

Fired-up for their first game of the season, the boys got off to a great start at Centenary, grabbing three Washington Park wickets before the score had reached 10. The chief destroyer was the ever-reliable Nathan Barlas (2/2), whose unerring accuracy was once again on display. Dangerous left-armer Ryan Waites was just as tight at the other end, finishing with the remarkably economical figures of 1/1 off four overs, including three maidens. Zander Elkins (1/12) and Ollie Mulvogue (1/10) were also amongst the wickets, while all the other bowlers were hard to get away as the Wash-Ups could only muster 5/44. Finn Gleeson was his usual impressive self with the gloves, taking a catch and conceding just one bye. In return, Rohan Wilson (41 retired not out) and Dillon Williams (15) got the boys off to a flyer with destructive hitting that saw the small target passed inside 10 overs. Tommy Purcell (15) and Charlie Davidson (28 no) continued the misery for the visitors. A home clash against West Bentleigh awaits the boys this Friday night.

(Thanks to Ryan (Davo) Davidson for the U16 wrap)

U14B North AWAY Vs ANA/Moorabbin LOST 3/44 Vs 2/101

With numbers light on we went into the first round with a couple on non regular players and our thanks to Daniel Klimek & Reece Kille filling in for our side. Needless to say, our first outing was one we’d rather forget, and we’ll chalk it up as the one loss we’ll allow for the season! With extras making the opposition look better than they were - the good news is that we know our trajectory is up from here. To help this along, we welcome a new player to our ranks from round 2. Best of the bowlers were Jackson Lee (1/2) off a 2 over spell and Lucas Daff (0/0) off 2. Looking for a big leap forward in 2 day game for Round 2 Vs Hampton away.

U14B Central HOME Vs Dingley LOST 3/96 Vs 4/130

Duncan McKinnon was no place for the faint hearted on Friday afternoon. Winning the toss and bowling – the boys were lucky not to be blown off the pitch. With Kane Gleeson wearing the gloves – the bowlers set to their work and things were looking good up when Sam Gleeson (1/12) clean bowled a dangerous looking opener with score on 1/12. The opposition were able to put together partnerships of 37 & 40 for the fall of the 2nd & 3rd wickets – running out to a total of 130. Wickets also to Max Schroeder (1/13), and Flynn Howe (1/20). Highlights also included a runout to Sam Haywood & Arjun Mehta. Chasing 131, opener Jake D’Rozario fell lbw on 16, and with the score at 1/18, Sam Haywood came to the crease and made a good 40* (before having to retire) and Arjun Mehta (19) helped partnership along falling with score on 2/85.

Possibly leaving a few runs out there (according to the coaches) the boys ran out of overs with the score on 96. A young side, they will be better off for the journey and take on Cluden at home in Round 2

What a difference a day makes – with warm sunshine greeting us for our first Saturday morning of cricket for the year – the kids were out and about with loads of smiling faces to greet me as I did the “round the grounds”

U12B AWAY Vs Brighton Union WON 5/83 Vs 3/48

This young side is one to watch. Winning the toss and putting Union in - the writing was on the wall for a great win with the home side being restricted to 3/48 after their 20 overs with wickets to Todd Hannan (1/7) Archie Baum (1/0) and Ollie Sinclair (1/3) with 2 catches to Max Matthews. The target was passed without much trouble with Noah Montgomery (23*) and James Ramalinga (17) being the best of the batsmen. Round 2 is away Vs Washington Park

U12C HOME Vs Carnegie LOST 8/73 Vs 6/90

Another BUCC toss win saw the U12Cs put the opposition in at Centenary. Brad’s lads took to the field and bowled well for this first round encounter with extras between both sides being just about even. Bowling well the side shared the wickets with 1 each to Hugo, Ryan, Jonathan, Oscar, Tom & Alasdair. And the boys were on in the field as well with Jonathan taking his first catch off a cracking cover drive. Unfortunately, the batsmen were unable to make the target falling 17 runs short with Ryan top scoring (18) and Hugo (14). Round 2 is also at home for this side taking on South Melbourne

U12D3 HOME Vs Elwood LOST 5/29 Vs 5/100

Winning the toss and batting on a beautiful surface at Bailey Reserve – the U12D3 side under Mark D’Rozario played their first game of “graded” cricket. With a wonderful array of family and friends in the gallery to cheer them on – this team gave it their all against Elwood. With 2 brand new players joining the Lions this season – fun and development is the key and this side has loads of time for improvement. Highlights were batsman Charlie Gow (7) including a 4, and 2 wickets each to Dean Farrington & Noah Brady. Round 2 is hone Vs Elsternwick

U12D4 AWAY Vs Carnegie WON 3/69 Vs 3/68

Playing in the same division as U12D3 – this side took on Carnegie at Lords. Carnegie won the toss and batted putting on a total of 69 for the loss of 3 wickets. Raff (1/11), Luke (1/7), a catch to Fraser and a runout to Archie were the highlights. The team went out with purpose and made the target with 3 overs to spare – Luke (8) & Jack (8) & Mitchell (7) seeing out the innings for a great win. Round 2 Vs McKinnon away.

Rookies AWAY Vs Kingston Heath WON 6/73 Vs 3/67

I arrived at Mordialloc to a see of smiling faces and loads of fun – with Mums and Dads, Grandparents and siblings all enjoying a glorious morning for these boys first game of “real” cricket! With the match already under way – excitement was high and things were progressing very well as coach Paul Dessent oversaw a win of the toss and elected to bowl. These youngsters got into it with gusto capturing 3 wickets – 1 each to Archie, Leo & Mitchell. With a target of 68 – all players made runs from their 15 ball allowance: Ethan (3), Lucas (9), Antonio (3), Jack (2), Archie (5) including a 4, Leo (4), Mitchell (6), Ben (3). With the add back system for rookies – it went to the wire with the boys pulling off their first victory! Well done lads!

Sunday saw another piece of club history take place with our first ever 16&U girls side taking the field in their combined team at Shark Park. With 5 players in this side – 4 of these girls are the mainstay of our AGCC ranks playing their 3rd season and we welcome 1 new player to our side.

AGCC 16U HOME Vs Cluden LOST 3/75 Vs 2/118

Things started well with the girls winning the toss and batting. Erin (10*), Emily (5*), Sophie (1*) all contributing to total. Paige opened the bowling (0/7), Erin (0/11), Darby (0/19) in her first game, Sophie (0/10) & Emily (0/13). As only their first game together as a combined side and only 2nd time meeting – this side will bond and develop to great things as season progresses. A great effort by our girls to make such contributions and improvement will come as the weeks pass! Great Job Ladies

Wednesday

AGCC 13U AWAY Vs Beaumaris WASHED OUT

With some new players in this side – we were all set to go when the heavens opened and the pitch at Sandringham Secondary was under water in no time!

So – this gives our girls another week of training to freshen up and develop new skills in the nets prior to taking centre stage at home at Centenary Vs Toorak-Prahran for Round 2

Massive thanks to all our coaches, team managers, scorers and especially to all our junior players for a great start to the season! Remember to great across all things at the club via Team App, LIKE us on FB and fixtures via MyCricket. Ask your coaches or team managers if you need assistance.
