Round Report: Round seven-week two
Longmuir
Defending 274, Hugo (2/45) got the boys off to a great start with an early pole, while Jase claimed two of his own have Washington Park in trouble at 3/56. However, the visitors consolidated and added another 100 to the score before Hugo struck again. But from that point on, the coach led by example, taking four more wickets to finish with the match-winning figures of 6/62 off 22.2 inspirational overs. The 16-run win sees the boys sitting just outside the four by percentage. A huge clash looms against third-placed Le Page this weekend.
Quiney
After having a day to forget in week one, the boys weren't going to roll over and hand arch rivals Omega a rare outright. Asked to bat again after conceding first-innings points, a fighting half-century from Mark Rozario saw day two come to a frustrating conclusion for the opposition.
Thirds
Defending 162 against St Andrews Gardiner, injured skipper Dav threw Liam Manakis (2/49) the ball, and the youngster, sporting several gold chains and a Gucci medallion after his expenses-paid trip to the US, grabbed two quick wickets. Pining for his mates in the fourths, Vinod 'VB' Bagi didn't let his temporary teammates down, claiming 4/35 off 17 menacing overs. Another gun seconded from the lower grades, Monty, also did his bit by chiming in with 2/22. But it wasn't to be with visitors just sneaking home. Special praise must go to Chris 'iron gloves' Elkins who hasn't been able to walk since Saturday.
Fourths
Missing several key bowlers and defending 223 against first-place Oakleigh Districts, skipper Michael "I've quit Facebook again but not Tinder" Britt was forced to open the bowling with 2006/07 Longmuir premiership star Ryan 'shit truck' Davidson, who was ably assisted by rising star Josh Swann (2/26). While young Swanny claimed the first two wickets, his eccentric father Dave decided to perform a striptease in an ill-fated attempt to take a catch off a bemused Davo. Mark Wilson and Steve Pickering also dropped sitters off the same bowler🤬. Lil Davo was bowling well (0/8 off six) but was struck down by a knee injury and carried from the ground. Subsequent scans have cleared the son of a gun of serious injury. Toiling hard against the odds, the boys weren't able to stop the hosts from claiming a hard-fought victory.
