Round Seven Recap 2022/23

Title: Bentleigh Uniting Cruises to a Convincing Victory Over Le Page Park in Longmuir Shield Round 7

The South East Cricket Association witnessed a thrilling encounter between Bentleigh Uniting 1 and Le Page Park 1 in the Longmuir Shield Round 7 match held on November 12 and 19, 2022. In a fascinating game with ups and downs, Bentleigh Uniting 1 emerged victorious with a considerable margin, showcasing their prowess in both batting and bowling departments.

The match started with Le Page Park 1’s innings, who posted a total of 125 runs after losing all ten wickets. Though there were no individual fifties or hundreds, the top order made a good contribution with LJ Wilton scoring 18 runs, *PL Mentiplay 22 runs, and SW McConchie registering the highest score of 32 runs. The innings witnessed a significant middle-order collapse, with M Silva and A Sheriff claiming crucial middle-order wickets.

From a healthy team score of 98, Le Page Park suffered a dramatic collapse, losing K Rabadi, MJ Harris, OL De Silva, and J O’Meara in quick succession, leaving them reeling at 102 for the loss of 8 wickets. The excellent bowling from Bentleigh Uniting’s A Sheriff (3 wickets), N Halliday (2 wickets), and M Silva (4 wickets) proved to be the decisive factor in restricting Le Page Park to a modest total.

In response, Bentleigh Uniting 1 took full advantage of the manageable target set by Le Page Park 1, chasing it down comfortably with the loss of just four wickets. The top and middle order made significant contributions, with B De Alwis scoring a scintillating 69 and R Drummond contributing a solid 32. B De Alwis’s quickfire fifty provided the much-needed momentum for the innings and set the platform for an easy victory.

Le Page Park tried their best with their bowlers, but could not make a substantial impact on the opposition’s batting lineup. OL De Silva and TR Gramaconi chipped in with a wicket each, but their individual contributions proved insufficient against a confident and solid Bentleigh Uniting 1 batting unit.

Bentleigh Uniting’s batting was also well complemented by the presence of the unbeaten batsmen, R Drummond and M Silva at the crease, who took the team to victory with a strong partnership. The pair’s calm and composed approach ensured that the team’s victory was never in doubt, crossing the finish line in style.

In conclusion, this match was a classic example of a well-rounded team performance, with Bentleigh Uniting 1 displaying their supremacy in both batting and bowling departments. The clinical efficiency of their bowlers in dismantling Le Page Park 1’s middle order, coupled with the aggressive approach of their batsmen, set the stage for a comprehensive victory.

Following this win, Bentleigh Uniting 1 will look forward to continuing their dominant run in the upcoming matches of the Longmuir Shield, while Le Page Park 1 will aim to regroup and bounce back stronger in the next fixtures. Both teams will emerge from this contest having learned valuable lessons and with an improved understanding of their strengthsand weaknesses going forward in the tournament.
