Round 6
U16s AWAY Vs Elsternwick WON 2-105 Vs 7/24
After losing the toss and being asked to bowl by Elsternwick, the boys made a breakthrough in the first over, with Ryan and Finn combing for a run out thanks to tight bowling from Nathan (1/8). Charlie (2/4), returning to bowling duties following a knee complaint, had the stumps cartwheeling by clean bowling two batsman. Ollie then got in on the act, claiming two wickets of his own, while Zander picked up other scalp, as the boys routed the home side for just 24. In return, Crossy (32) and Finn (23no) got the runs with little drama. Ryan came in and whack, whack and whack to bring up a quick fire 30. It was a great win by the boys and it shows what they’re capable of if they play as a team.

Despite the round being drawn for heat on 2nd week – the above result will stand as an outright in first week
U14B North HOME Vs Elsternwick MATCH DRAWN - Heat
Losing the toss – the boys took to the field – hoping to get off to a flyer and we were not disappointed, with Jackson Lee (2/7 off 5) taking the first in the 2nd over and having them 1/7. Bowling tightly, the opening combination of Connor (1/27 off 8) & Jacko saw them 1/11 after their opening spells. Krish (1/12 off 3) filling in for us from the other U14B side – took the next in his first over 2/33 in 11th. The batsmen were able to form a partnership of 27 before Stell in his first game back for the year (1/6 off 2) saw the 3rd wicket down and this was shortly followed by the 4th thanks to Connor returning for his 2nd spell – score 4/69 in 23rd. A run out in the 26th thanks to Zak & Dan S was the 5th. Jacko also took a 2nd thanks to a catch from Sam seeing score at 6/95, followed by a caught behind by Dan S off Azza (2/13 off 7) taking it to 7/104. Aaron Fernandes (1/10 off 5) got in on the act in the last of his 5 overs bowling the 8th with the total on 113, and Azza took the 9th with another catch to Sam in the 38th. They managed to put on 12 in the last 2 overs setting us a target off 132 in week 2.
Due to heat – Day 2 was not played and the round is noted as a draw across fixture
U14B Central HOME Vs Hampton Central WON 5/90 Vs 8/72
Unfortunately no wrap this week – and due to the round being heated out – this result now becomes a draw – but we know who won!
U12B HOME Vs McKinnon 1 LOST 122 Vs 222
Feeling the effects of a big first half of the season and the end of school year celebrations the U12B boys dropped their first game of the season to McKinnon.
The first week was a tight battle and had us in a good position. Captain Richo won the toss and sent us in to bat and 'Wolverine' Matt Logan anchored the innings with a stoic 28no. Monty helped us to a good start with 12 runs and 'Knuckles' Matthews chipped in with quick fire 18. At the change of innings we finished 3/84. In response, McKinnon got off to a good start before our bowlers got a look at their soft underbelly - taking 6 wickets in the last 12 overs and having McKinnon 6/86 at the half way point. In the second week we picked up a couple of quick wickets to have McKinnon down to their last wicket. Unfortunately, we faced a future Steve Smith - with the McKinnon openers returning to put on a combined total of 170 between them (including one getting a century!). Monty stood out as the pick of our bowlers with 4/16, followed by Aidos Ferwerda (2/13) and some fearsome bowling from Richo (1/18). 'The Twist' Sinclair also picked up a wicket and 'The Force' Morgan, 'JR' Ramalinga and 'Knuckles' Matthews bowled some very good, tight corridor lines.
Set a big total to chase - the boys went out with positive approach. 'Noodles' Cannington put on some entertaining T20 batting but fell for 18, while Air Jordan Palermo made 10 solid runs at the end of the innings. We ended up all out for 122 to fall well short of the 222 total. Despite the loss, the boys have had a great season so far, and can learn a lot from this game about what we can improve on in the new year. Have a great break over Christmas and New Year and look out for the U12Bs to come out with some fire in 2020!
(Thanks to Dave Cannington for the U12B wrap)
U12C AWAY Vs Sth Melbourne WON 5/131 Vs 7/118
Unfortunately, no wrap this week
U12D3 AWAY Vs McKinnon 2 LOST 6/102 Vs 107
In this game we had a close one BUCC 6/102 lost to McKinnon 107 all out.
There were 3 run outs. Archer & Dean, Noah and Eamon had assisted run outs. Charlie had a direct hit. Ryan, Eamon and Dean took a wicket, Robbie took his first official wicket for the club
Dean was looking good until he was run out for 8. Robbie, Ryan & Eamon retired after facing 30 balls. Kohen top scored with a fantastic 25 not out. The boys bowled well in the first week and batted well. Noah batted well and went out in the last over. Robbie and Ryan had a good partnership. The bowling was a little more inconsistent in the second week. The fielding was very good. Will was a bit unlucky to be run out. Kohen and Eamon batted well together and put on a 49 partnership.

U12D4 HOME Vs Elsternwick 1 WON 3/109 Vs 9/78
We again had a home game at Bailey Reserve to round off our season before the Christmas break. Bowling first again, the boys were met with some excellent resistance from the young Elsternwick team early on. After a solid opening partnership, we made some breakthroughs and bowled a great line to have them 5/47 off their first 15 overs. When it came to batting, the lads were intent on a solid foundation. Mitch and Lincoln were out unluckily but Christian and Fraser spent valuable time in the middle for their best knocks of the season. After week 1 we were 3/63, with a small lead but plenty of batting left.
On week 2 runs were hard to come by but Christian showed how it was done with a superb 26no. It was great to have most of the boys spend lots of time out in the middle with the bat and with some more urgency running between the wickets our total of 109 could have been much better. The Elsternwick team fought hard, but the target would prove beyond them, as we finished 31 runs in front. Christian took 2/5, typically reliable with the ball, while we welcomed back Xavier 2/10 and Raf 'proved our #1 strike bowler with an impressive 2/9.
We go into the break with 3 wins, a draw and 1 loss, with our loss after leading easily at the half. Big challenge now is to carry this on in the new year as we look to further develop the lads in all aspects of the game. Merry Christmas all.

Day 1 – 14/12/19
Batting first Lucas Ramalinga and Ben Dessent opened the innings and kept the score ticking over with Lucas contributing 10 and Ben 13 runs. Ethan Palermo then came to the wicket and made his highest score with an impressive 17. The boys only lost 1 wicket for the 20 overs.
Our good form with the bat continued with the ball as Ethan took 5/8 off 5 overs to complete an excellent match. Lucas 3/18, Ben 2/19 and 3 run outs made it 13 wickets for the innings which was the boys best performance for the season. The final score was 169-112.
Day 2 – 21/12/19
The rookies had their biggest win of the season defeating Dingley 157-91.
Batting first the boys made 73 runs off the bat and only lost 4 wickets. Lucas Ramalinga and Ben Dessent both top scored with 17.
Their bowling and fielding continue to improve taking 8 wickets with Mitchell Dessent 2/10, Ben Dessent 2/18, while Leo Stafford, Lucas Ramalinga and Jack Cannington all took one wicket.
The rookies now have 8 wins from 10 games.
