Blast from the past! Bentleigh Uniting 3 Triumphs Over Southside East Caulfield 1 in Thrilling Encounter


Bentleigh, Feb 19, 2022 – Bentleigh Uniting 3 emerged victorious in a spectacular showdown against Southside East Caulfield 1 in the 13th round of the South East Cricket Association – E Grade, held on Saturday, 19 February 2022.


In the first innings, Bentleigh Uniting 3 put up an imposing total of 208 runs for the loss of 6 wickets, setting a challenging target for their rivals. The top-order batters made a substantial contribution, with C Duke leading the charge, scoring a magnificent century with 114 runs. K Fuller also played a pivotal role in building a solid partnership, contributing 29 runs, while E Manakis chipped in with a useful 22 runs. Despite the commendable bowling efforts from CN Patel, who claimed three wickets for Southside East Caulfield 1, Bentleigh’s batters held their ground firmly.


In their response, Southside East Caulfield 1 managed to score 153 runs, falling short by 55 runs, which solidified Bentleigh Uniting 3’s victory by a substantial margin. The top order of Southside East Caulfield 1, especially MZ Tandel and H Tandel, showed resistance with scores of 57 and 48 respectively, but the team could not manage to cross the finish line. KS Gleeson from Bentleigh Uniting 3 emerged as the star bowler, capturing 3 crucial wickets and keeping the run flow in check.


The match began with Bentleigh Uniting 3 winning the toss and opting to bat first. C Duke’s splendid century provided a solid foundation, showcasing excellent technique and poise, which put the opposition bowlers under immense pressure. His innings, coupled with significant contributions from E Manakis and K Fuller, allowed Bentleigh to post a robust total. Southside East Caulfield 1’s bowlers, especially CN Patel, put up a brave fight, with Patel claiming three significant wickets, including the prized wicket of C Duke.


However, during the chase, Southside East Caulfield 1 found themselves in a precarious situation, unable to keep up with the required run rate. Despite the best efforts of MZ Tandel and H Tandel, the consistent bowling attack from Bentleigh Uniting 3, led by KS Gleeson, made it an uphill battle for Southside East Caulfield 1. Gleeson’s three-wicket haul proved decisive, ensuring Bentleigh Uniting 3’s commanding victory in the match.


R Wilson and C Manakis also bowled economically, keeping the pressure mounted, and ensuring the run chase remained a distant dream for the opposition. A Waites and R Wilson, despite not claiming wickets, maintained disciplined bowling lines that contributed to the mounting pressure on the batting side.


This comprehensive victory reaffirms Bentleigh Uniting 3’s status as formidable contenders in the South East Cricket Association – E Grade, showcasing both their batting depth and bowling prowess.
