ROUND REPORT
Round 3 - Week 1
Longmuir
Sitting atop the ladder and choc-full of confidence, the boys won the toss and with no hesitation chose to bat against cross-town rivals Mackie at Centenary. In-form openers Campbell and Hugo once again got the team off to a great start before Cambo departed for a well-made 41. Shorty had a rare failure but the joy was short-lived for the hosts with Josh joining Hugo to absolutely savaging their attack in a classy 101-run partnership. Unfortunately, both boys couldn't notch three figures with Hugo departing for 96 and JB succumbing for 88. But wouldn't every team in the SECA sell their clubrooms for our array of young talent? Rory Drummond looked comfortable on debut and will be better for the run, while Buddhika will be rueing a poor shot that saw his demise for an encouraging 17. Staring at a third-straight golden 🦆, Suresh Papalie avoided another week of good-natured ribbing with a handy score of 11🙌 . Bowled out for a very competitive total of 271, Mackie had to negotiate a very tricky four-over period, which didn't go to plan, with our smiling assassin, Malin, claiming a wicket in the final over of the day to have the Machine 1/1 at stumps.
QUINEY
Saturday's inclement weather saw the day one abandoned so a one-dayer will be played next week.
THIRDS
Needing a win against Moorabbin West at Bailey after two very disappointing losses to start the season, the father-son combination of Pete and Ethan Manakis opened the batting again, Smoothie (11) looked good until he lost a stump, so Joey (15) joined Peter until the latter played a disgusting slog and departed for 20. Charlie Davo once again looked a class above but threw his wicket away for a sparkling 15 (when will he learn???), Last week's man of the match, Timmsy, came and went and that saw veterans Ryan Davo and Chris Elko combine, vowing running wasn't something they were interested in. So, what did they do? They slogged their arses off and let the visitors do the exercising, with Davo (69) and Elko (75) showing sons Charlie and Zander exactly how it's done. 268 will take some chasing😎 Special shout-out to club icon Steve 'Sticky Bounz' Harris for popping down to the game and inspiring the boys to a fantastic score.
FOURTHS
Winning the toss and batting against Hampton Central at Duncan McKinnon, youngster Rohan (36) and polarising veteran Greg Brisbane got the boys off to a solid start. Skipper Dave (15) and Travis (13) made handy contributions, but it was Rajiv who gave the innings some real momentum, cracking a blistering 33 (4 fours and 2 sixes) in a very short period of time. And it continued to be the day of the veteran with Dougy (17) and Monty (43) also getting in on the act. With a very potent attack, the boys should have no trouble defending 191.
FIFTHS
Aloi's All-Stars won the toss away to Hampton Central and decided to bat, with Guy and Simon taking the shine off the ball while keeping the scoreboard ticking over on a very slow outfield. Their wickets saw gun youngster Finn and Brucey, who was back from Japan and battling a severe case of gout and limited ability, joined forces until Brucey departed for 6. Jonno (45) joined Finn (37) and their productive partnership saw the boys post a very competitive score of 3/121.
Don't forget our first social event of the season, the Halloween spectacular, is on this Saturday afternoon and night, so bring the family and friends down to Centenary for a barrel of laughs.
