Senior Men’s Teams Recap: Nail-Biting Wins and Stellar Performances
In an incredible start to November, Bentleigh Uniting’s Longmuir Shield team claimed a thrilling victory over West Bentleigh, winning by just two runs. West Bentleigh set a high bar with 8/295, led by Campbell James’ impressive 97. However, Bentleigh’s bowlers, particularly Buddhika De Alwis with his four-wicket haul, kept the pressure on. The chase came down to the final over, with Noah Montgomery smashing a six on the last ball to secure the win at 8/297, sparking celebrations among the Bentleigh fans. In their previous match, Bentleigh successfully chased down Brighton Union’s 210 in just 38 overs. Our Quiney Shield side also showcased strong performances. Against Washington Park, Bentleigh bowled them out for 129, with a standout performance from Liam Manakis, who marked his return from injury with a four-wicket haul, and debutant Ben Dessent added two more. Bentleigh then chased the total with ease, ending at 5/133, thanks in part to Rory Drummond’s 40. The previous match against Omega was a tight contest, with Bentleigh setting a competitive 3/161, led by Jack Zaia (67 not out) and Ollie Milner (40 not out). Despite the team’s efforts, Omega managed to surpass the score, closing at 2/162.
Our 3rd XI team faced several competitive, with the then newcomer Ben Dessent taking 4/25 on his senior debut, creating a memorable moment with his father catching one of his deliveries. G. Aloi top-scored with 34, though the team fell short in the chase. The 4th XI team found victory at home against Brighton Districts. Bowling first, they restricted Brighton to 149, with strong contributions from G. Brisbane (4/25) and J. Guttman (3/18). In response, the batting lineup proved solid, with Joe Aloi scoring an unbeaten 50. Senior Women’s Team Update: Building Strength and Team Spirit
Round Two saw standout performances from Sarah Burke, who claimed two wickets in one over, and Erin Sanford, who impressed as a debut wicket-keeper. The team’s enthusiasm and dedication to learning and growing each week are paying off, and they’re looking forward to their upcoming game against Mackie. The senior women’s team continues to make strides. In Round Three, the team displayed excellent teamwork in fielding, with solid backing up and communication that minimized opposition runs.
